本学学友会グローバル化推進室は3月、本学の実施する「団体を対象とした表彰制度」の学生部長表彰を受賞した。同賞は、課外自主活動における実績や期待度の高い団体を対象とした、公募型の表彰制度。2023年度募集は、12月18日から1月17日までの期間にCAMPUS WEBで行われた。
グローバル化推進室は22年度、学友会における二言語化の推進を目的として立ち上げられた。創設後は、学園祭や秋学期入学者対象の新入生歓迎会で、よりスムーズなコミュニケーションの促進を目的とした英語対応の実施などを行ってきた。今回の表彰もそのような普段の活動が評価されたのだろうと、24年度グローバル化推進室室長の大西さん（国関3）は話す。
大西さんは、24年度に進めたい施策の一つとして、学友会公式サイトの全面的な二言語化を挙げた。現在、同サイトに投稿される記事は、二言語化が実施されたものと、されていないものが混在している。大西さんはこのような現状を打破し、言語の側面からより多くの学生が利用しやすいようなサイト作りを行いたいと話している。
また、もう一つ注目している課題として、英語基準の学生が言語の壁によってサークルに入り辛い状況に関して述べた。この状況の解消方法については前年度から考えているものの、大きく前進するような施策が見つかっていないという。大西さんは「今年は少しでも良い方法を見つけたい」と語った。

In March, the Globalization Promotion Office of the University’s Student Union received the Dean of Students Award from the University’s Award Program for Groups. The award is an open call for applications and recognition program given to organizations with high performance and great expectations in extracurricular voluntary activities.
The application period for AY2023 was from December 18 to January 17 on CAMPUS WEB.
The office was established in AY 2022 to promote bilingualism in the Student Union. Since its establishment, the office has provided English-language support at the University Festival and the Welcome Events for new students enrolling in the fall semester to promote smoother communication. Ms. Onishi (3rd-year student of the College of International Relations), the head of the Globalization Promotion Office for the AY2024, said that this year’s commendation was probably due to the recognition of such everyday activities.
She cited the complete bilingualization of the Student Union’s official website as one of the measures she would like to promote this year. Some articles are currently posted only in Japanese. She hopes to change this situation by creating an English version of the website to make it more accessible to many students.
She also hopes to improve the situation in which English-based students have difficulty participating in extracurricular activities due to the language. The organization has been looking for ways to resolve this situation since the previous year but has not found any measures that would make significant progress. Ms. Onishi said, “I hope to find a better method and solve this problem this year.”
